An art project of 100 portraits, painted for a new community she would grow to cherish.
This extensive art project involved Faye Hedera creating 100 hand-painted portraits that were exhibited together at the Windgate Museum of Art at Hendrix College. Creating 100 Faces of Conway was her way of connecting with her new community in Conway, Arkansas.
Having moved to new cities many times, she was familiar with the long gap between arriving and truly feeling at home. Originally conceived as a push to step outside her comfort zone and get to know Conway, the project evolved as she met her subjects and became a means to use her skills to bring joy to people in the community.
Portrait subjects were primarily chosen through community nominations. A few individuals were personally invited after interactions with her, but for the most part the selection process was left to others. Many people were nominated multiple times, indicating that their engagement in the community was far-reaching, even if they did not realize it.
Hedera donated 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the portraits to Haven Conway, raising over $13,000. Haven Conway is a qualified residential treatment program for adolescent females in foster care between the ages of 12 and 18 who have experienced trauma. The project not only brought people together but also supported an important local cause.
