During a challenging chapter in her artistic journey, Faye Hedera embarked on the enchanting process of illustrating 'The Lovely Fruit Fairies.' Facing temporary mobility difficulties, Faye adapted her artistic practice. Her imagination blossomed during this time, leading her to produce the image of what would become the first illustration for her book: a charming fairy perched on an orange tree branch, inspired by the lush beauty of her South Florida home. Over the following two years she created a variety of fairies with disabilities to bring awareness and celebrate people of all abilities.

When the time came to transform the series into a book, Faye collaborated with her then-twelve-year-old daughter, Zélie Minette, who lent her poetic talents to write gentle verses for each fruit fairy.

Together, they carefully crafted lyrical rhymes perfect for soothing bedtime readings, evoking cherished memories of childhood evenings spent listening to stories. As Faye began to heal and regained her ability to walk, she embraced a love for illustration that continues to this day.

Published in 2024, 'The Lovely Fruit Fairies' has since taken Faye and Zélie on a heartwarming journey. They have shared their book with enthusiastic audiences at schools, libraries, and organizations, bringing an interactive, accessible and sensory-friendly "fairy experience" to groups of delighted children.
